Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy is based on findings by Osteopaths in America about 100 years ago. While studying the body’s subtle physiology, they found that every cell in a healthy body expresses a rhythmic movement, which is fundamental to life.

Every structure in the body, bones, organs, muscles etc.follow its own particular pattern of movement. At the core, the most profound movement is in the cerebrospinal fluid, which bathes and cushions the brain and spinal cord.

This movement, which was termed craniosacral motion is expressed in a tide-like ebb and flow and is so subtle that it is barely measurable with instruments, but the hands of a trained therapist are able to perceive it. Over the years Craniosacral Therapy has gradually developed and refined into the subtle, deep, healing process, which is available today.

In response to stress, illness and injury, the body’s tissues contract and if the trauma is severe they may stay contracted restricting the body’s functioning and leading to chronic physical conditions such as back pain, migraines, digestive disorders and emotional issues such as anxiety and depression.

Restrictions in the body’s functioning show up in the way the craniosacral motion is expressed. Craniosacral Therapists can use irregularities in this motion to identify areas where there is congestion and the possible origin of a problem. Using the hands to reflect back to the body the restrictive pattern it is holding, the body is encouraged at an unconscious level to let go of it’s restrictive pattern and return to an easier mode of functioning.

As an additional benefit Craniosacral Therapy might lead to an increased level of energy, as freedom from holding the contraction is achieved. Subtle, gentle and safe Craniosacral Therapy can benefit anyone, especially babies, pregnant ladies, the elderly and fragile.

This gentle therapy uses no manipulation is performed while the patient lies fully clothed, the patient will experience the very light touch of the therapists hands, sensations felt can vary from a deep feeling of relaxation, to a light tingling, heat, pulsations or other sensations.
