Reiki

The word Reiki means ‘Universal Life Force’. Reiki is a gentle, relaxing form of energetic channelling or ‘healing’ which is used to treat both physical illness and mental and emotional difficulties. It is carried out with the recipient lying fully clothed whilst the practitioner's hands rest in various places on or just above the body.

Reiki was reinstated in Japan in the 1800’s by Dr Mikao Usui. Although it’s exact origins remain uncertain, Reiki is thought to have originated in the Buddhist Sutras dating back a thousand years or more.

Reiki is not religious and requires no particular faith to work. Energy channelling is based on the idea that the entire universe is energy, including ourselves and all that surrounds us.

The human body is made up from various inter-related energetic systems both physical and non-physical, which are in turn connected to the Universal energy systems.

Health and wellbeing are dependent on the smooth operation or harmonised balance of these systems. Disease, ill health or discomfort in life is the result of energetic imbalances. Such imbalances may be rectified through the practice of Reiki.

Having been attuned in Reiki, practitioners are able to open themselves as a vehicle for Reiki energy. Reiki flows in through the crown chakra (the top of the head) and down the arms.

In a healing environment, the hands are applied onto the body and Reiki energy is drawn by the body to those areas which require it. Reiki energy is able to flow without any conscious intervention or directioning by the practitioner.

Reiki is proven to strengthen and harmonise the body and has been shown to promote call regeneration and growth. It can treat acute or chronic illness and is excellent in the treatment of mental or emotional difficulties and is especially useful for treating stress.
